Winter's End: Photo Shoot w/ Christine Hahn, Featuring Taylor Aflen

Always a pleasure to work with the talented Christine Hahn. This time I thought it would be fun to invite my friend and fellow stylist Sandy Phan along. She brought some of her pieces, I brought mine, and Christine coughed up some fur...and voila...a winter wonderland editorial. Taylor Aflen of SMG shines in this shoot. A classic beauty indeed. When I was doing some of the pre-production for wardrobe I wanted to highlight rich and savory colors such as hunter green, burgundy, burnt orange, with complimentary nude tones.

I put this outfit together months prior to this shoot waiting for the perfect editorial to come along. I'm really into velvet right now!


Monochromatic outfit. This is seriously my favorite sweater of all time. Paired with a long cream gown with lace bodice.


The richness of this green makes her eyes pop. Gorgeous.


I totally scored on this vintage crochet sweater. The scalloped sleeves and trim are to die for.

Truly The Greatest of Our Time: Alexander The Great

Alexander The Great...without a doubt, truly the greatest designer of our time. He was a visionary and brought together music, art, fashion, and pop culture into one stage. He turned heads and made people interested in his work. Although his sense of fashion was far from the likes of "pretty" it was always moving and thought provoking. I'm going to miss Alexander, but something tells me he's been reunited with his mums and his good ol' muse and mentor Isabella Blow.

Ford Supermodel of the World: Charlene Almarvez

Go Philippines! About a month ago Ford announced their 2009 winner for the Ford Supermodel of the World Contest, and the runner ups. Thousands of girls from across the world try out. Those who make the cut get to strut their stuff in NY Fashion Week. The winner was Karlina from Latvia (yawn), but #2 runner up was Charlene Almarvez...who in my opinion stood out from the bunch. Well, obviously...she's the only Asian model who made the cut, but she generated quite the buzz. It's like on American Idol, even though Jennifer Hudson was a runner up she's reaping in a whole lot of success. That's what I hope for Ms. Almarvez! It's very rare to see an Asian model book something huge in the mainstream fashion industry...let alone a Filipina so I'm stoked!



She doesn't have any tear sheets yet, but I'm hoping to see more of this beauty!

I got to do the prop styling for the press photos for the Microsoft Arc Keyboard. The homie Kyle Johnson took the photos and got me on board. In many ways prop styling is a lot harder than wardrobe. Making things look "perfect" but not too perfect is not easy! Details are everything...

Smells Like Teen Spirit: Teens With Cameras

Has anyone else noticed that there's this phenomenon with teenage photographers snapping some seriously gorgeous pictures? Gorgeous in the likes of fashion magazine worthy! Thanks to Flickr, Tumblr, and all sorts of social media these teenage hopefuls can take their talents by storm and actually get some recognition. They don't have to rub elbows at some industry party or climb the ladder, they just snap their pictures, post them online for the world to see, and voila! This phenomenon makes you wonder a bit. Teenagers who got their grubby little hands on an expensive camera? Or is it simply raw talent? Personally, I think the latter. There is a sense of freedom and wonderment when you're young and creating. Anything goes! See for yourself...

Nirimi Joy Hakanson- 17 year old Aussie. She is so legit that she is even represented by Look Management and Production. She's one of the only redeeming factors on the frowned upon networking site Model Mayhem. See more of her work on her Flickr.

Snow White & The Golden Mirror: Photo Shoot with Kyle Johnson Feauturing Jennifer Marckx

I met Jennifer Marckx about a year and half ago and even though she hasn't done any formal modeling I always thought she had a stunning and an interesting look. However she moved away before I could book her for a photo shoot. Good news, she was in town for the holidays and we managed to do a quick shoot with Kyle Johnson. I usually like to have a more complete team with a makeup artist, hair stylist, but she came as she was on set, and we made it work! Jennifer is such a natural beauty and natural behind the camera, that it was just that easy! It started to rain in the middle of the shoot, so we seeked refuge beneath the trees. We really didn't have a concept in mind when we did this. I just had a bunch of random things in my car...ie; golden mirror, vintage suitcase, etc. Enjoy!

I got this mirror from a quirky little Russian woman at a flea market.


The boots paired with the dress was sort of an accident, but it worked out!

My New Favorite: The Shaggy Sweater

I saw a post on Chictopia last month about this fabulous shaggy knit sweater (see below) and a couple days after seeing the post I scored and found one very similar (if not the same) for only a whopping $6. It's now my new favorite item of clothing and has been on constant replay since I got it. I also featured it in a recent photo shoot I styled. Stay tuned for those photos!

A Splash of Masculinity: Amber Rose in January 2010 Vibe Issue

Just when we thought Vibe was down and out forever, they were saved. Not sure who took the magazine out of their financial rut or whatever drama they were going through, but who cares. The good news is they are back and featuring one of my favorite ladies in their 2010 issue. The magazine is ringing in the New Year with a bang. I love this editorial, and I love seeing curvy girls rock high fashion. Amber Rose is the true Cinderella story. From stripper poles to Philly to landing a modeling contract with Ford NYC!

Happy Holidays From Osiris The Great!

Happy Holidays everyone! This time last year I was the only person reading and visiting my blog, and now I have a small and humble following, and hopefully my readers and supporters will continue to follow me on my journey to success! Most fashion blogs write about their "wish list" for the holiday season, but honestly...I have it all. Everything I need is right in front of me. Sometimes when you make do with your limited resources, that's when creativity really shines!

Whatever holiday it is you celebrate, don't forget to celebrate the holiday of life. It's a precious and dear thing so make it count not only for yourself, but to others. Inspire, share, create. Be thankful for what you have, but always hope for more.

My chair (the orange one) and my dress (the one on the left) made a little cameo in one of the assignments for the "Keep It Light" photo group. Didn't do much "styling" in this photo, rather just loaned a few items haha, but I loved the way it turned out. I'm used to diptychs, but rarely do I see 3 related photos combined in one sequence. At any rate...I love this photo. It's simple with great composition, and expression. Everything Old is New Again: Cathy Metschar Model Turned Photographer

I think every fashion obsessed woman can recall their defining moment where "liking" a pair of shoes turned into "loving" a pair of shoes and where shopping was no longer a "hobby", but an "addiction". My moment took place circa 1990. I was 6 years old. I wore red overalls, floral rompers, Hypercolor, and LA Gear. Supermodels were all the rage, Herb Ritts photos were everywhere, and I'd be damn if I missed an episode of "House of Style" hosted by Cindy Crawford.

It's no wonder why I felt all sorts of giddy and excited when I met Cathy Metschar. She was gracing pages of French Vogue, British Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, etc. at the peak of the "supermodel" craze...a time in my life that I always feel sentimental and nostalgic about.

Below are some photos Cathy has shared with me. These photos make my heart flutter with inspiration. The same kind of feeling I felt when I was just 6 years old browsing through Vogue. Sigh...It's amazing to see how current some of these tear sheets look when they were almost 20 years ago. I think I want to recreate some of these shoots.


Isn't this just magical! So chic, so playful, so Parisian. I love the movement and expression of this photo.


Ok, is it me or does this outfit look a little Balmain, a little Alexander Wang, a little bit of this and that from what you see in runways today.


Look at those amazing rose shaped sleeves. Couture in the 90's!


Before Teen Vogue, there was Miss Vogue. I have been wanting to style a "southwestern" kind of shoot for quite some time now. With lots of denim...I think this photo will be the inspiration.

Cathy's life has changed a lot since her modeling days and the fabulous mother and wife is still actively involved in creating beautiful images...but this time behind the camera. Bed & Breakfast: Photo Shoot with Coco-Foto & Fravel Creative

This shoot was probably the most challenging for me to date, but definitely one of the best learning experiences I have had as an upcoming "wardrobe stylist". It was challenging mainly because I felt a little sub-par in my credibility (I have only been building my portfolio for about a year) and a little overwhelmed in both excitement and nervousness.

It was the first shoot where an art director was on set...and let me tell ya, art directors make a world of difference especially in editorial work. I think a lot of photographers/ stylists/ hair & makeup artists get too comfortable in their "style" and have the tendency to get attached to their work, so it's important to have someone direct and oversee what works and what doesn't work, etc. I enjoyed watching Connie and Lisa conceptualize everything from beginning to end and was so grateful to be included in this collaboration.

Keeping it classic with a plain white t-shirt and black trousers. Eric Worsech was such a great model. As a friend of mine said, "he looks kind of like a Hedi Slimane model". Agreed.


Everything old is new again. The great thing about vintage pieces, is that some pieces are timeless and can be recreated into something different current over and over again. That's how I feel about this 50's leopard swimsuit top and vintage sequins cap.


I am still a little rusty when it comes down to "styling" men, but I think I did ok. This was the first look I put Eric in. You can get the hat and vest from Moksha Clothing in the UW District.


Emily Gosling is stunning. She has such a versatile face and can pull off anything. Hat from H&M.


Thought this get up might be too loud, but it worked out wonderfully. It was my favorite look out of the series.
