Smells Like Teen Spirit: Teens With Cameras

Has anyone else noticed that there's this phenomenon with teenage photographers snapping some seriously gorgeous pictures? Gorgeous in the likes of fashion magazine worthy! Thanks to Flickr, Tumblr, and all sorts of social media these teenage hopefuls can take their talents by storm and actually get some recognition. They don't have to rub elbows at some industry party or climb the ladder, they just snap their pictures, post them online for the world to see, and voila! This phenomenon makes you wonder a bit. Teenagers who got their grubby little hands on an expensive camera? Or is it simply raw talent? Personally, I think the latter. There is a sense of freedom and wonderment when you're young and creating. Anything goes! See for yourself...

Nirimi Joy Hakanson- 17 year old Aussie. She is so legit that she is even represented by Look Management and Production. She's one of the only redeeming factors on the frowned upon networking site Model Mayhem. See more of her work on her Flickr.

Jonathan Wolpert- 16 years old. Already featured on one of the most credible fashion sources Refinery 29 and named a fashion prodigy. Mr. Wolpert is on his way and what I predict to be the next Jimmy Fontaine and Jason Lee Parry. Check out his Flickr.

Chrissie White- 16 year old based in Seattle, WA. Already generating quite the local buzz and making adult photographers say "WTF?!" Chrissie White already has a distinct style and has nailed "surrealism" in her photography. Also on Flickr.

Secret Style: 21 Arrondissement

For the love of Jesus, Mary, Joseph...Seattle isn't that fashionably inept. Sure this city has a handful of people who show great effort, but poor execution when it comes to dressing themselves, however there are also some pretty stylish people. Maybe they're tourists or just passing through town, or perhaps they're transplants, but the fact is...they are around. Far and few in between, but if you look closely they are there. Sometimes its not as obvious as one might think. A sleek leather jacket, classic Oxfords, cashmere scarf, and skinny tie. Or simple sweater dress, motorcycle boots, denim jacket, and black shades. Very simple, sleek, but nonetheless...these people have style. Want living proof? Check out my new favorite Seattle Street Style blog: 21 Arrondissement. Long lived Pike & Pine, and DiscoFunBath, but we have a new eye on the prowl capturing some of Seattle's fashionably conscious people. One can only hope that the perception of Seattle style to people in other cities or countries isn't one that includes Birkenstocks, REI, Northface, and Nalgene bottles.

Adam Sinding is a saint for creating this blog and is saving the face of Seattle! Please check the blog 2-3 times a week for constant fashion reassurance.

Featured Photographer: Bo Streeter

My friend Emeka introduced me to the work of Bo Streeter about a year or so ago. I love his work! Streeter's work rides the fence of fashion and journalism and embodies every day life in underrated circumstances. The environment in his photos are usually dim and a cross between urban landscapes with natural elements. Anyway...this super awesome photographer is coming to Seattle next week and I get to work with him. So excited!

Booty Duty: Ass With Some Class

My friend Luis Facebook status states...

"Googling booty shots....trying to separate a classy booty shot, from a trashy booty shot"

I found this rather curious and thought about the age old obsession with butts. I find a good butt more interesting than breasts any day. And I was to choose from one of the two procedures I would opt for butt implants. Not that I would, I'm just saying!

Anyway, Luis Facebook status made me think about notorious booty shots captured by some of the most amazing and provocative photographers of all time. Check out what makes the list...

Foto Feature: Guy Bourdin

Guy Bourdin is truly one of the most influential photographers in the fashion industry. His controversial photos and depictions of women have landed him campaigns with Helmut Lang, Chanel, and Versace to name a few. It's been over a decade since his death, and his images continue to serve as a template and inspiration to many fashion photographers today.
