Seven Years Deep w/ Kyle Johnson

I'm trying to figure out what to wear tomorrow. I'm getting my portrait taken by one of my greatest friends and the reason why I got into wardrobe styling in the first place; Kyle Johnson!

I don't think a lot of people know our history, but we go way back. I officially met Kyle at my 20th birthday party. At that time we were both serious backpackers! We shared an affinity for hip hop. We went to every show from Dilated Peoples, People Under The Stars, Hieroglyphics, to name a few.

Kyle and I have watched one another grow as artists, and it's not every day that you meet someone who you know will always vouch for you and have your back. For that I am forever grateful for my friendship and relationship with him. We've built our books and repertoires together and it's been quite the ride seeing him follow his dreams. If there is anything I've learned it's...loyalty is a great investment. You work from the bottom up w/ a small circle of people who are down for you and in the long run it really pays off.

Kyle is turning 27 on Thursday, and even though I'm a couple days early I want to say Happy Birthday, congratulations, and all of that to one of Seattle's best. Actually let me rephrase that...one of west coast's best! Below are some portraits Kyle took of me in the past, and some of our early collaborations.

We got to shoot in Gordini's infamous home at The Ben Lomond Apartments!

One of the most amazing homes I've ever been to.

This was taken back in 2005? Right before I moved back to Los Angeles.

One of our very first test shoots together w/ our dear friend and darling muse Rose.

Another oldie, but goodie w/ band- Born Anchors.

There came a point where we got good enough to book agency signed models. Ms. Shealeen Hager was one of our first =)

Naughty Child Seventeen

I've been cleaning up my "act" on the Internet these past couple of weeks. Deleting shit on Myspace, deleting journal entries from 2003, coming up with alter egos, getting separate domain names, editing my privacy settings on Facebook, locking my Twitter, and all of that. Image management. There is a time and place for everything. Ladies and gentlemen...we got to keep it hoe-fessional! There is some leeway in the industry where you can act without inhibition and be yourself. So while this blog validates me as a legit wardrobe stylist/ fashion consultant and overall productive member of society...I also like to engage in a whole lot of other things- bullshit, some trivial, some inappropriate. What have you...

I guess this blog will mainly be work and level 1 personal related. However, for other things that are irrelevant or contribute nothing to my grind you can visit my Tumblr. Naughty Child Seventeen. Holler at your girlscout!

Featured Friend: D.K. Jesus of Zoos Juice

I met David earlier this year and off the bat I had love and respect for this dude! His willingness to learn, professionalism, and his drive are qualities I always admire in artists. I meet way too many artists out there who have the talent, but lack the people skills. I haven't been in front of the camera in sometime (I've gotten so used to being behind the scenes) so this impromptu photo shoot was a little nerve wracking for me. Especially since I didn't have pants on haha. But if you know me you know that composition is everything, and pants would have obstructed the image we were shooting for. Show the homie some love at www.zoosjuice.com!

From SEA to JFK: Rosie Boyce and Emma Dumont Grace The Runway NYFW

I browse through Style.com religiously...especially during Fashion Weeks. Anyway, while I was trend spotting and clicking away from one runway show to another I stumbled upon two familiar faces gracing the runway! Emma Dumont of Ford Models NY and Rosie Boyce of Major Model Management!

The lovely Rosie Boyce walking for Erin Fetherston...one of my favorite designers. According to the SMG blog (Rosie's mother agency), Ms. Boyce recently did a test shoot with the infamous Bruce Weber. So major! I am loving her new hair cut!

Walking for Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. Ms. Rosie towers at a whopping 5'11, and is obviously working her height and those heels! Check her out in Autumn Wander...a shoot I styled with Christine Hahn. I can't wait to see more of Rosie!

The lovely Emma Dumont a.k.a. Poppy for Chris Benz. This little lady is a queen of all spades...modeling, acting, dancing, and singing! A star in more ways than one. And she is anything but mediocre in the above mentioned talents.

Little Miss Emma walking for Karen Walker. I also had the opportunity to work with Emma Dumont on a shoot I styled with photographer Christine Hahn. It's not released yet, but here's a sneak peek of the shoot. She was so sweet, gracious, and excited about life! And if you haven't heard Emma landed a spread in V-magazine's next issue.

I'm so excited for these girls and their continued success!

Vote For Giselle: Savvy Magazine Modeling Contest

Giselle Gonzales is a face to watch for! Please vote for her for the Savvy Magazine Modeling Contest. Giselle recently signed to SMG, booked a Luly Yang runway show, and I have a feeling this little lady is going to soar! Vote here!

Keep It Light Photo Group: Kyle Johnson & Friends

My chair (the orange one) and my dress (the one on the left) made a little cameo in one of the assignments for the "Keep It Light" photo group. Didn't do much "styling" in this photo, rather just loaned a few items haha, but I loved the way it turned out. I'm used to diptychs, but rarely do I see 3 related photos combined in one sequence. At any rate...I love this photo. It's simple with great composition, and expression. No fuss with hair and makeup, no assistant on set...just a couple of great images that let the design speak for itself. To see more of the "Keep It Light" photo group visit their blog.

Everything Old is New Again: Cathy Metschar Model Turned Photographer

I think every fashion obsessed woman can recall their defining moment where "liking" a pair of shoes turned into "loving" a pair of shoes and where shopping was no longer a "hobby", but an "addiction". My moment took place circa 1990. I was 6 years old. I wore red overalls, floral rompers, Hypercolor, and LA Gear. Supermodels were all the rage, Herb Ritts photos were everywhere, and I'd be damn if I missed an episode of "House of Style" hosted by Cindy Crawford.

It's no wonder why I felt all sorts of giddy and excited when I met Cathy Metschar. She was gracing pages of French Vogue, British Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, etc. at the peak of the "supermodel" craze...a time in my life that I always feel sentimental and nostalgic about.

Below are some photos Cathy has shared with me. These photos make my heart flutter with inspiration. The same kind of feeling I felt when I was just 6 years old browsing through Vogue. Sigh...It's amazing to see how current some of these tear sheets look when they were almost 20 years ago. I think I want to recreate some of these shoots.

Isn't this just magical! So chic, so playful, so Parisian. I love the movement and expression of this photo.

Ok, is it me or does this outfit look a little Balmain, a little Alexander Wang, a little bit of this and that from what you see in runways today.

Look at those amazing rose shaped sleeves. Couture in the 90's!

Before Teen Vogue, there was Miss Vogue. I have been wanting to style a "southwestern" kind of shoot for quite some time now. With lots of denim...I think this photo will be the inspiration.

Cathy's life has changed a lot since her modeling days and the fabulous mother and wife is still actively involved in creating beautiful images...but this time behind the camera. Cathy and her husband Frank own a children photography studio...Bambini Kids! Check out their site and spread the word.

Frank and Cathy's muse of Bambini Kids...their very own bambini...Chloe Metschar! They also have a blog about their musings...www.bambinistudio.blogspot.com.

Featured Local Models : The Sweet, The Sassy, and The Sexy

I could never be a model. I'm 5'2" and my measurements are very...sausage like. Flat chested, big bellied, and love handles for days. Sure I'm "cute", but nevertheless I am plump! However, I'm not insecure about it. I love fashion, but I love food just as much. My two passions conflict, that's why I opt to work behind the scenes of fashion instead. I love my cupcakes, all fat mocha, and hamburgers past midnight. With that said, I can appreciate beauty in the 5'8" and above, and the 32-24-34 physique.

I was able to work with a number of beautiful models the past couple of months and I have developed a roster of "favorites". Some who are signed with an agency, and some who are not. I hope they don't mind this little shout out.

Meet Giselle. This young, vibrant actress/ model is someone I can picture in Teen Vogue. I would compare her to Kristen Dunst. I would recommend her to any designer and photographer any day. Photo by Evan Carlye.

Meet Ashley Chanel. She is an exotic beauty mixed Japanese and Spanish. Great on the runway, perfect in front of the camera, and a face of an angel. I could see her gracing the pages of Nylon Magazine and ads for any mainstream beauty line.

Meet Zjanna. This Romanian beauty has it all. The height, the bubbly personality, and legs for miles. She brought the crowd at SFW to their feet when she came out in Logan Neitzel's finale piece. Love her! Photo by Barry Druxman.

This concludes my first installment of Favorite Local Models! More lovely ladies to come.
